Please note that all songs you hear on this site are home demos, done with minimal equipment, so if you like the music, songs, or sound, this is done on a bare-bones minimum and simply a blue print of what could be (with a label's help)!

THE CIRCLE OF WOE is a southern Metal band based out of Oklahoma. Led by Thomas, founder of the group, the music incorporates every sound that involves loud guitars and intensity. With pieces of Metal, Hard Rock, Grunge, Goth, and other influences, this music walks the line. The songs use an older school formula of composition, but newer sounds. The results are strong guitar riffs, vocals you can understand more often then not, and lyrical content that is personal and based on real life.

Although Thomas is the heart and soul of the band musically and artistically, he combines help from various friends when possible. Currently Woe is looking for a label to record their debut LP with, and thus will solidify its line up for the future. Anyone interested can listen to the music here, and contact Thomas at the email: thomas@thecircleofwoe.net unless of course you are a Myspace member, and then you can add or message us there. Official site: www.myspace.com/thecircleofwoe or thecircleofwoe.net

Thank you to everyone who stops at the site to check out the band and our music. We hope to share more with you soon. Check for updates!

Why this name?
The name of the band is often questioned, so here is the explanation:
“When I started thinking of possible names, I wanted something that sounded like an organization or union,” explained Thomas. “I came up with ‘The Circle” initially. I knew that it would take more talent than just me to make the project work, and I had no clue where this help would come from. So, I figured it likely that it would wind up as a circle of our friends playing with us when they could.”
Thomas continued farther, “These songs are like the story of my life, for the most part. A lot of the lyrics are personal experience. I’m one of those people who need an outlet to get rid of bad things in my mind or soul, and fortunately I have music. So most of the tunes are based on sources of Pain and Woe. Pain is cliché, and Woe is a little bit cooler in a name.”
There you have it, “The Circle of Woe”.

Do you play live?
To tell it straight, I'm more of a solo act in true form. I write, record, and perform most of the music myself. I have help from good people and several reliable sources when I need them. If I get signed, I have a list of A-list talent that will jump on board not only for the album, but for a tour as well. As it stands, everyone has their own projects at the moment, and until I can get some $$$ behind my own, it's hard for them to leave theirs behind.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
You're reading about this band currently, otherwise you wouldn't be. The internet rules.

Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
YES, a real label. I'd like creative control with the image, logos, site, and merchandise, but need a label to finance the CD and push the touring. There's always a way to meet in the middle and I'm ready to do this!

Band History:

Thomas and Greg Upchurch grew up together in rural Oklahoma. They played in High School rock bands together. After graduation, each went their seperate way.

Greg's drumming took him to LA to eventually land in successful gigs.

Thomas moved to another small town, where he began writing a catalog of music and riffs. There he met Shannon Sconce, who joined him in mayhem for many years.

Now, Thomas carries the torch and calls it The Circle of Woe. With help from Upchurch on some drum tracks, this is the music he wrote (with help from Sconce on several tracks). With around 30 songs to record, its more than a 1 trick pony for sure.

Your influences?
Black Sabbath, Pantera, Prong, Corrosion of Conformity, The Cult, Kiss, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Crowbar, Faith No More...so on

Favorite spot?
Dallas and OKC seem like home, since I live in between.

Equipment used:
Cakewalk (bootlegged), my ESP guitar, a borrowed bass, a 12 dollar microphone and there ya go. Money would be so nice!

Anything else...?
